what we do
Food For Thought Books Collective is an independent, not-for-profit, workers' collective project dedicated to the dissemination of radical & progressive media in all its various forms.
Workers' collective? Not-for-profit? Independent? What does all that mean?
- "Workers' collective" means there are no
bosses here. Why? Because they aren't necessary & who really wants
one? We work together through cooperation and consensus.
It works really well.
- "Not-for-profit"
means we all earn a fixed wage. Any profit over & above our base
expenses we donate back to our community. We are dedicated to the
principles of mutual aid & local solidarity.
- "Independent" means the workers are the owners of this store and no one owns us. The money you spend here stays in this community & helps keep it a thriving & enjoyable place to live.
Our vision & mission:
Food For Thought Books Collective stands in solidarity with all struggles for justice, peace and equality and allies itself with all peoples resisting violence and oppression. We believe in media as a means toward the realization of social justice and liberation. We seek to provide a space where voices, people and ideas silenced and ignored by the mainstream media are given room to be heard, to be seen, to be supported and to be realized. We see ourselves as a hub for radical and progressive exchange and aim to provide a physical space in the community that is grounded in liberation for all.
